The Assessor's Office is responsible for performing and maintaining property assessments for the equitable distribution of the property tax burden under the current law. The office compiles special assessment rolls, administers the Board of Review and maintains ownership records for the City of Kalamazoo for both real and personal property. The Assessing office also maintains property descriptions and maps for taxing purposes and provides the City Treasurer with taxable value on all City properties, which are used to produce annual tax bills.

Assessing & tax database
The City of Kalamazoo provides an online database of property information (hosted by BS&A Software) that is a representation of the City's assessment and tax records. The database includes assessed value, market value, year built, square footage, legal description, land parcel size, and previous owners for properties in Kalamazoo. The database is searchable by property address, parcel number, or owner's name. The information is generally current, but users may wish to verify the information with the public primary sources. The City of Kalamazoo assumes no liability for the information contained on this site.

Board of Review
The Board of Review for the City of Kalamazoo will be hearing 2022 property assessment protests beginning March 9, 2022, and continuing each weekday as needed through March 18, generally starting at 9:00 am. Meetings will be held at Kalamazoo City Hall, 241 W. South Street. All protests in person will be heard BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, and the deadline to schedule an appointment is March 7, 2022. To schedule an in-person appointment, call 269-337-8845 before 5:00 pm March 7, 2022. Protests may also be made to the Board in writing but must be RECEIVED in the office by 5:00 pm on March 17, 2022.
Assessments have been adjusted to result in an anticipated State Equalized Value Multiplier of 1.0000 for all classes of property. The Tentative State Equalization Multipliers and Equalization Ratios, as determined by the Kalamazoo County Equalization Department, prior to the above-mentioned adjustments were as follows:

- Appeals must include supporting documentation of the property owner’s contention of value.
- Supporting documentation WILL NOT be returned and is a permanent record of the appeal.
- Appeals must be received in the Assessor’s Office NO LATER than 5:00 pm, Thursday, March 17, 2022. POSTMARKS ARE NOT ACCEPTED.
- Appeals can be mailed to: Assessor’s Office, 241 West South Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
- Appeals can be dropped off with the Assessor’s Office staff, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
- Appeals may be left in the drop box in front of City Hall or the drive-up drop box on St. John’s Place at the corner of Lovell.
- Please know that all appeals receive equal weight whether they are in-person or in writing (mail-in).
