The City of Kalamazoo’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Department (DEI) advances diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout all internal functions of the organization and in public projects and programs. The DEI Department facilitates education and training for staff and reviews City policies and ordinances through an equity lens. DEI staff also work with external partners to advance the community-wide goals of creating a community that celebrates diversity, includes everyone, and shares opportunities fairly.
DEI staff serve as liaisons with the City of Kalamazoo's Civil Rights Board. In this role, staff work closely with the City Attorney’s Office to review discrimination complaints filed under Chapter 18/18A of the City Code of Ordinances.
